Ah, the Plot!
It’s some years after where “Meet the Fockers” left off, and Greg & Pam now have 5-year-old twins. They appear happily married.
Enter Jack, who is having some, er, health issues. Convinced of his mortality, he announces that Greg is now the “Godfocker” (a.k.a. the head of the family). Of course, this involves a series of tests, for Greg to prove himself worthy.
All seems fine until Jack starts being suspicious of Greg’s apparent relationship with Andi (made worse by what she promotes – an erectile dysfunction drug). While Greg actually isn’t having an affair, Jack becomes more and more suspicious, and even suggests to Pam that she might want to rething her marriage and take up with Kevin again. Things are getting more and more tense between Greg and Jack, even though Greg builds a new house, gets the kids in a better school and generally tries to prove himself to Jack. No dice. However, Jack has a heart attack and who saves him? Greg does, and the two of them finally come to a truce while at a birthday party for the twins.
So where do Bernie and Roz come in? They show up for Christmas and announce they are moving nearby to be near their grandcholdren. How near? Two houses down – yikes! Not to be outdone, Jack and Dina announce they will move closer as well. (Obviously, this isn’t happy news to Greg and Pam.)
So What Do People (and Critics) Say?
The results? The critics didn’t especially like it, and the “Tomatometer” gave it a score of 10 out of 100 (ouch).
But since critics and audiences don’t always agree, what about people like you and me? It defintitely wasn’t a box-office success, grossing far less than the previous two films in the series. And the audiences rather less enthusiastic as well; many thought it was definitely time to end the series.
So should you go and see this movie? If you’re a true fan of Meet the Parents and Meet the Fockers, then you probably will want to give this one a watch. Should you are so-so on the series, give this movie a miss.
