Watch Black Swan Online

There’s a new movie out, by the name of “Black Swan”, and it’s gotten good reviews from the critics so far.  But here’s a question for you. Are the critics always right for everyday people like you?

Let’s check out the movie and see if it’s a “Yeah, go see it!” or a “Nah, you can pass.”

Are You into Thrillers?

Black Swan kind of fits into a few categories; partly musical, part horror and part psychological thriller. That’s quite a combination! The movie is set around a production of the ballet called Swan Lake. If you’ve never seen it, that’s OK, but know that there are two main characters. One is the White Swan, who is full of innocence. The other is Black Swan, who is the exact opposite. Two sides of the same coin, so to speak.

Ah, but there is also the Swan Queen, who combines the character facets of the other two.

There are two main dancers. The first is Nina Sayers (played by Natalie Portman, of Star Wars fame) and the other is Lily (played by Mila Kunis). The current Swan Queen, Beth MacIntyre (played by Winona Ryder) is retiring, and a new queen must be chosen.

There is quite a heated competition. Nina is a quiet dancer with perfect technique and she fits right in with the White Swan character. However, the director thinks that she is too far into that role, and cannot dance with the sensuality inherent in the Black Swan.

Lily, in the meanwhile, is also competing for the Queen role, and she is the perfect counterpoint to Nina. But something strange is about to happen. Who is Really Who?

As Nina tries to prove she is Swan Queen material, she discovers a side of herself that she didn’t know existed. And while at first it’s a rounding out of her personality, it soon becomes more than that.

First, Lily seduces Nina by slipping drugs into her drink one night at dinner. Nina wakes up late, horrified. Racing to the theater, she finds that in her absence, Lily is dancing the Swan Queen. Nina is furious and blames Lily for not waking her up. Lily, on the other hand, says she went home with a man and teases her mercilessly.

And it does downhill for Nina. She ends up playing the White Swan. She starts having vivid hallucinations. First about Beth, then her mother, and then she kills Lily.

Or did she?

Should You See Black Swan

The critics love it, and audiences seem to like it. It’s a dark movie, and perhaps a step into the world of madness.

Both Portman and Mila Kunis do a wonderful job. If you like dancing and adore thrillers, then definitely see Black Swan. If you’re into neither, or feel uncomfortable with adult scenes, pass it by.
